Things sometimes happen in Real Bunny World that we humans would never allow if it were up to us. Last month, the 4 junior American does worked together to escape their grow-out run. I was fairly surprised to be met at the door of the shed that morning by those whom I now refer to as The Sorority Sisters. They had not only been out after curfew, they had been entertaining an "older man".

The English Angora buck had pushed out his J-feeder and squiggled out, leaving a good bit of wool to show his escape path. He was not so bold as the young lassies, hiding behind the center run of cages rather than meet me at the door. I scooped the party-goers back into their respective homes, but the damage was done.

Last weekend, doing the annual Spring Deep Cleaning (not to be confused with the Summer, Winter, or Fall Deep Cleanings) I rearranged the shed-folk rabbits such that the Sorority sisters could have their own first apartments....complete with baby-saver wire and nest boxes. Yesterday I added straw to the cages, which they promptly shoved through the floor mesh. Then this morning, the Sister closest to the shed door was busily trying to build a nest (not in the nest box) with 5 pieces of straw in the rear corner of the cage. I got her a large open pan and some more straw. Long story short, two of them are actively nesting, and the others seem to be thinking about it.

First timers don't always "take", then they tend to loose kits to cold and ignorance. But it seems to be my luck that all 4 got pregnant and they seem to have their maternal urges in order. Americans can have 10 kits in a litter....sigh. They should be funny looking things, if nothing else.
